RAPIER PRACTICES

Below is a listing of the rapier practices in the kingdom of Caid, grouped by region.

North and Coastal  - (includes Bakersfield, Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Fresno)
South - (includes Orange County and San Diego area)
Central - (includes Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley and San Gabriel Valley)
East - (includes Las Vegas and the High Desert area of CA (Ridgecrest, Barstow))
West - (Hawaii)




NORTH and COASTAL

Where:
Centennial Park, Bakersfield, CA.

When:
Mondays, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.; Sundays, 10:00 a.m. - Noon; Thursdays 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
 

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Shire Of Wintermist

Address/Directions:
Directions from the South (Los Angeles): Take CA-99 North.  Exit at Stockdale Hwy/CA-58 E Exit, following the signs to Stockdale Hwy.  Keep left on ramp and turn left on Stockdale Hwy.  Turn right on Montclair St, which is approx. 1 mile from the freeway.  Park is on the right of Montclair.  The practice on far side of the park.  The easiest way to get to park is to turn right as soon as you get to the park and then turn left on the other street that fronts the park.  There will be a parking lot on the left, with picnic tables next to the tennis courts and basketball courts.

Where:
Via Marina Park, Oxnard, CA.

When:
Sundays (unless they conflict with a major war or event), Noon - 3 p.m.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Shire Of Darach

Address/Directions:
3301 Keel Way, Oxnard, CA 93030.  From the South:  Take your favorite path to the North 101, exit at Victoria.  Make a left on Victoria.  Follow Victoria south to Wooley and make a left on to Wooley. Travel east on Wooley and make a right on Kelp Way, the park will be on your left.   From the North: Take the 101 south, exit Victoria and make a left at the light.  Then make a right on Victoria and take Victoria south to Wooley and make another left onto Wooley.  Travel east on Wooley and make a right on Kelp Way.  The park will be on your left.

Where:
Lancaster City Park, Lancaster, CA.  (Edwards AFB/Lancaster/Palmdale area)

When:
Sundays, 9 a.m. - Noon

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of Dun Or

Address/Directions:
43011 N. 10th Street West, Lancaster, CA 93534.  From the Los Angeles Basin, make your way to the 14 Freeway and head North towards Lancaster.  Take the Ave L exit and turn right (east).  Turn Left at the next major intersection, 10th St W.  Lancaster City Park is just past the COSTCO store on the left.   The main entrance to the park is just past the community center.  When the entry road curves to left, turn into the parking lot on the right.

Where:
Santa Barbara, CA.  (University of California, Santa Barbara)

When:
Wednesdays, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Description:
This is an non-sanctioned, non-SCA private practice that is open to all interested parties.  Please note the $2/night fee to park on campus.

Address/Directions:
From the South: Take 101 to CA 217 and proceed to the traffic light past the east gate.  Turn left at the light, then right onto UCen Road.
When the road starts to turn, the UCen will be ahead of you, and the Music Building to its right.  Find a parking spot which is not "Enforced 24 Hours"  The courtyard is within the building, opposite the mini-theater

From the North: Exit the 101 at Los Carneros and head toward the ocean.  Turn left at the light on Mesa Rd, and follow it through a stop sign and 3
lights.  It becomes Lagoon Rd.  Follow it to UCen Rd. and turn right.  Follow the main road to the third light, where you will turn right.  When the road starts to turn, the UCen will be ahead of you, and the Music Building to its right.  Find a parking spot which is not "Enforced 24 Hours". Lot 3 is the closest, and best during the summer, but usually full during the school year.  The courtyard is within the building, opposite the mini-theater

SOUTH
(Orange County Area and San Diego)
Where:
Murdy Park, Huntington Beach, CA

When:
Tuesdays, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of Gyldenholt.

Where:
Allied Gardens Recreation Center, San Diego, CA

When:
Wednesdays, Starting at 6:30 p.m. ; Sundays, Starting at 1 p.m..

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of Calafia.

Address/Directions:
 5155 Greenbriar Ave, San Diego, CA.  From Los Angeles, take I-5 South to San Diego.  At the 5 / 805 split, take the 805 South.  In approx. 10 miles, take the exit for I-8 East (towards El Centro),  In approx. 2 miles, take the Waring Rd exit.  In approx. 1.2 miles, take a left on Greenbriar Rd.

CENTRAL
(Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley)

Where:
Arcadia Park, Arcadia, CA.

When:
Tuesdays, 7:30-10:00 p.m.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of the Angels.

Address/Directions:
The park is on the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita blvd. in Arcadia.  Take the 210 to Arcadia, east of Pasadena, and exit at Santa Anita Blvd. Take Santa Anita Blvd. South to Huntington Drive and turn right.  Huntington Drive divides into two one-way streets, with Arcadia City Hall and Police Department on the island between the streets.  To get to the correct parking lot, take a left on the first street after Arcadia City Hall and then another left back onto Huntington Drive.  The entrance to the northwest corner of the park is on the right hand side of the street.  It can be a bit tricky getting into the parking lot the first time.

Where:
El Segundo Recreation Center, El Segundo, CA.

When:
Wednesdays, 7:30-10:00 p.m.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of Lyondemere.

Address/Directions:
The El Segundo Recreation Center is located on the corner of Pine and Eucalyptus streets in El Segundo. The clubhouse (and a patio) are on the southeast corner of the intersection. The field is southeast of the clubhouse. (map)

Where:
Verdugo Park and Recreation Center, Burbank, CA. 

When:
Wednesdays, 7:45-10:00 p.m.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of Altavia.

Address/Directions:
3201 W. Verdugo, Burbank, CA  (Located at the corner of California St. and Verdugo Ave.)

From the I-5
Take the Burbank Blvd. exit and turn West.  (If you are exiting from South I-5, you will turn right; if you are exiting from North I-5, you will turn left. - Basically, turn away from the mountains.)  In about a mile, turn Left at Buena Vista Blvd.  In another mile, turn Right at Verdugo.  The park will be on the Right at the corner of Verdugo and California in 0.5 of a mile.

From the CA 134
Take the Pass Avenue exit and turn North.  (If you are exiting from East 134, you will turn left; if you are exiting from West 134, you will turn right.)  In about 0.5 a mile, turn Right on Verdugo.  The park will be on the Left at the corner of Verdugo and California in 0.5 a mile.

Where:
Upland Memorial Park, Upland, CA.

When:
The first and third Thursday of each month, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Shire Of Heatherwyne.

Address/Directions:
Take the 10 Freeway to Euclid Ave. in Upland, which is located between the 57 and 15 Freeways.  Take Euclid north to Foothill Blvd.  Take a right (east) on Foothill and proceed for about 3 miles.  The site will be on your right (south) behind Gretzky's Skating Center. (If you hit Grove you have gone too far.) Practice is held on the east side of the park under the parking lot lights.

EAST
(Nevada and the High Desert area of California)
Note: Interested parties in the Ridgecrest, CA area are encouraged to attend the practice in Rosamond, CA.

Where:
Lorenzi Park, Las Vegas, NV.

When:
Sundays, 9 a.m. - Noon

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of Starkhafn.

Address/Directions:
Lorenzi Park is located between Rancho and Valley View on the south side of Washington Street.  The practice is held in the SW corner of the park, right in front of the Nevada History Museum. (map)

WEST
(Hawaii)
Note: The following practices are regularly schedules but may be preempted by other scheduled events and demonstrations. Check the Barony of Western Seas Newsletter (The Runestone) or contact Don Vladimir for any schedule changes.

Where:
Island of Oahu, Kailua, across from Castle Memorial Hospital.

When:
Sundays, 3:30 until dark.

Description:
This is the rapier practice for the Barony of the Western Seas.  This open Baronial practice at a Pohakapu Park has been Don Claudius' main class location.

Where:
Island of Oahu, Manoa Valley.

When:
Wednesdays, 7-9 pm.

Description:
Lady Uta's Rapier Practice.  This practice is hosted by Lady Uta Blackthorne.  Normally marshaled by Don Claudius.

Address/Directions:
1090 Aleo Place. On the West (Ewa) ridge of the valley, left off of Manoa Road.  Parking is on the street.

Where:
The Musketeer Fencing School, Island of Oahu, Manoa Valley

When:
Thursdays, 7-9 pm.

Description:
Musketeer Fencers (USFA/SCA).  The Musketeer Fencing School teaches all forms of olympic fencing as well as theatrical fencing and is listed by the USFA.  SCA rapier is also taught here.  The date of this practice occasionally changes if the marshal's schedule requires it.

Address/Directions:
2426 Armstrong Street, Island of Oahu, Manoa Valley.  Take University Avenue off ramp from H1 freeway, past University of Hawaii, past Kamanele Park, right on Armstrong, first driveway on the left (mauka) side. Park at the foot of the stairs.  There is ample parking on the property as well as on the street.
